R.P. Singh in Twenty20 World Cup squad

R.P. Singh.

Chennai: Left-arm paceman Rudra Pratap Singh has been included in the 15-member Indian squad for the coming ICC Twenty20 cricket world championship. The event begins in England on June 5.

R.P. Singh has been selected after an impressive display in the on-going Indian Premier League in South Africa. Turning out for Deccan Chargers, he has scalped 13 batsmen in seven matches.

Paceman Munaf Patel has missed out on a place. The right-arm paceman was a member of the 16-member team that played a two-match Twenty20 series in New Zealand earlier this year. Another member of that squad, wicketkeeper- batsman Dinesh Karthik, has been left out. Left-arm spinning all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja keeps his place. The Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led side has a good blend of experience and youth. Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Yusuf Pathan and Dhoni form a powerful batting line-up. Zaheer Khan leads the pace attack with Ishant Sharma. Left-armer Pragyan Ojha is Harbhajan Singh’s spin back-up.

The team: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt.), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Yusuf Pathan, Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Praveen Kumar, Rudra Pratap Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Pragyan Ojha, Irfan Pathan.
